The Lodge Name

The lodge Name 'Impeesa' is the nickname given by the Matabele to the Founder of the Scout Movement, Col. R. S. Baden-Powell (later Lord Baden-Powell of Gilwell) during the South African campaigns at the turn of the century. A translation of the term is 'the wolf who never sleeps'. The name epitomises constant vigilance and is reiterated in the motto of the Scout Movement: Be Prepared.

In a masonic context, the sun never sets on Freemasonry because of its universality; likewise on Scouting which is also spread throughout the globe. Hence it is appropriate to name the lodge after the Founder who, like Scouting and Freemasonry, was reputed never to sleep.
